Irelyn {11 Months}

Irelyn, 11 Months Old, June 5, 2013
Sweet baby girl,
You are 11 months old!
Within one week you learned how to scoot in a circle (May 21st) and army crawl (May 27th).  You are getting to be such a big girl!  We all get a kick out of watching you scoot in circles.  It is ALWAYS clock-wise, even if it takes longer to get to what you want.  So funny!
We are still working on getting your knees up when you army crawl, but I am SO happy you can move yourself (and so are you)!

Army crawl, go baby go!
Kitty-in-a-cabinet
You still haven't figured how to sit yourself up yet but you are great at pulling up on things.

You continue to be quite the squirmy worm when Mommy is holding you. As a result my wrist got a slight sprain... I had to get a wrist brace so I could hold you without hurting!  You have always liked facing out and seeing what's going on all around you, it's just hard on Mommy's wrists!

We celebrated our first mother's day!  We went to church and then hung out at home.  I got Daddy to  do a little photo shoot with us :).

We had fun going to Mommy's cousin Mariah's pinning ceremony and graduation party.  You were a little trooper but I had to spend most of the ceremony out in the Fine Arts Center hallway with you and Easton, at least I could hear what was being said!
All the family nurses :)
We lasted about 20 minutes in the theater!
Mommy and Daddy have been taking you on walks occasionally which has been fun, you really prefer the backpack to the stroller.  I think you like being up high where you can see everything!  Daddy really wants to start running with you so maybe we will have to find a jogging stroller soon.
Dan continues to tolerate you quite well, even when you pull on his feet, ears, and gums.  The other dogs continue to steer clear of you :).
Daddy has the best toys
Playing "bumps-kup" with Daddy
You do not seem to be getting much bigger lately but some of your baby pudge is gone and you are starting to look more like a toddler.  Where did my little peanut go?!
Hey there cutie!
In one more month you will be ONE and I can hardly believe it.  You are such a light in our lives and we just love watching you grow into such a bright, happy, smart, gorgeous little person!
Happy 11 months ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {10 Months}

10 Months Old, May 5, 2013
Sweet baby girl,
You are 10 months old!
The biggest milestone you have reached this month has been SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT!
Yeah!
Mommy did some major sleep training, and thanks to a wonderful book you are now sleeping from 6:30pm to around 5-6am.  It is awesome.  Mommy will write a whole other blog post on how that whole process went down :).
In other news...
  •  Sleep training also resulted in you weaning yourself off the pacifier.  You simply lost interest.  I tried to give it to you a couple times when you were fussy during the day but you just chucked it aside!  Mommy is very glad she did not have to wean you from it!
  • Wearing 12 month onesies/shirts, 6-12 month pants (you've finally grown out of your 3-6 month pants!)
  • You are JUST starting to fit into your size 1 shoes.  Your feet have barely grown since birth!
  • Size 3 sposies
  • No teeth yet... still have bad teething days occasionally.
  • You grew enough hair for a barrette, and it's all on the center top part of your head- still working on growing out the back and sides!
  • The physical therapist has officially declared your head "evened out"... so no more cranial massage!  We are still working on gross motor for crawling.
  • Waved bye-bye for the first time (to Grandpa).
  • Signed for "More" at dinner.
  • Can rotate your body while rolling to get where you want to go (anything to avoid actually crawling right?!)
  • Reach for things far away- sometimes you reach so far it looks like your going to do a forward roll and face-plant... silly baby.
  • Lift your arms up to be held.
  • You are a social baby, unless a stranger tries to hold you!  People love watching you in church.  You like to stand up on the pew and make smiley faces and play "Sideways" with the people sitting behind us.   Such a ham.
  • You get VERY excited when you see other babies or kids, your arms flap up and down and you kick your legs really fast!
  • Mommy has you drinking milk ONLY with sippy cups now- no more bottles!
  • You can hold your own sippy without the special handles.
  • You still eat every 3 hours, usually 3-4 ounces during the day and about 6 ounces right before bed.
  • Still take two naps, usually one at 8am and one at 12pm, each lasting a little over an hour.
  • You are eating a lot more solids- you love baby food, especially carrots, squash, and mixed veggies.
  • You are quite dramatic when Mommy leaves the room and will wail until I come back... oh dear.
  • I've said it before, but you just LOVE to read.  Your box of books entertains you longer than your toy box.  Who needs toys when you have books?!  You turn the pages when being read to and will chuck the book aside if you don't like it... you have strong opinions about literature :).

It has been an exciting month for us (hello sleep!).
What a joy it is to watch you change so dramatically each month!

Love you to pieces Ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {9 Months}

9 Months Old, April 5, 2013
Sweet baby girl,
You are 9 months old!
You have been out in the world just as long as you were inside your mama :).
You didn't have to have any shots this time at your 9 month appointment, thank goodness!
Your 9 month stats:
Weight: 16.12 lbs (14th %)
Height: 28.6 in. (82nd %)
Head: 17 something? cm (40th %)
You are long and skinny with an average head!

Here's what you've been up to:
- Almost grown out of the 3-6 month onsies (9-12 month fit better in the torso), 3-6 month pants (short little legs!), can fit in her 12 month outfits/dresses.  Size 3 sposies and starting 4 snaps width-wise on the cloth dipes.
- You don't fuss at all during diaper changes or getting dressed.  You help get dressed by putting your arms in your sleeves :).
Still loving bath time!
- No teeth yet.  Some days the teething is pretty bad so we give you tylenol.
- Hold your own bottle.
- Mommy has been doing sign-language with you so hopefully you start signing soon!
- Rolling around both sides onto tummy.
- Will do a push-up but won't hold it long.
- Not crawling yet.  Still getting physical therapy and cranial massage.  We do lots of stretching and massage during the day.  We just learned the "I Love You" massage which helps your gassy tummy.
- You "Be-Bop" to music or if someone starts be-bopping with you!
- Like to make the "ba-ba-ba-ba", "buh-buh", and "ah-ah-ah" sounds, no mama or dada yet.
- Like to make noises, especially blowing raspberries!
- Ticklish under arms and on ribs, you "coo" and giggle!  You like being stroked under your chin and on your legs and feet.
- You have learned "SOOO Big!"  How big is Irelyn... "SOOO Big!"
I-pad time with Daddy
  - Favorite books, "Pat the Bunny", "Ten Little Ladybugs" and "Polar Bear, Polar Bear".  You actually fuss if I'm reading something you don't like!
Reaching for "Pat the Bunny"
Grandpa reading "Ten Little Ladybugs"
- You like to dump out your toy box :).
"Look what I did Mommy!"
- You LOVE:  peek-a-boo, being held, smiling at people, playing "sideways", "Mirror Baby", LOVE stuffed animals- you grab them and hug them against you and talk to them and smile, touching fabric with texture or patterns, buttons, tags, jewelry, any toy with a face, and books that have pictures of people.
Bunny kisses
Pony Love
-You know certain words and people (babushkas, grandma, grandpa, mommy, daddy, pretty sure you know Aster).
- Flap your arms up and down and "pant" when excited.
- Reach up to be held.
- Like watching the dogs and cat play... the cat avoids you now that know how to grab his fur and tail!  He used to sleep next to you... poor kitty!
Dan cuddles
Watching the dogs, it was snowing outisde... crazy Kansas weather!
- You know your name and respond to it.
- Fall asleep on walks and sometimes in the carseat.  You refuse to sleep in church or whenever we're around people (lots of stimulation, and you love observing people).
Ready for a walk!  Wearing Mommy's old baby bonnet and coat!
- You have stranger anxiety and separation anxiety (esp. from Mommy).
- You are a HAM at mealtimes and love to engage with everyone sitting at the table.
- You will eat oatmeal, rice cereal, puffs, cheerios, applesauce, a variety of veggie baby foods, zwiebach, you've tried bits of pasta and meat.
Carrot chewing for sore gums!
- Mommy tried formula (just for fun to see how you would take it)  boy-oh-boy was that a HUGE mistake!  You gave me the NASTIEST look, cried, and refused to put the bottle in your mouth after that!  I had to trick you into taking the bottle with breastmilk after that as you thought I was going to be mean and give you yucky formula again!  You are not easily fooled!
- Will drink from the sippy cup or the bottle.
- You are easily distracted when taking a bottle and usually we have to sit you up so you can look around and not miss anything.
- Like having a blanket or burp rag to snuggle next to your face when taking a bottle.
- Use your binky for comfort and will pop it in yourself.  I am trying to unclip your binky from you during the day as you really don't need it unless you're sleeping.
- You are great at falling asleep on your own for naps but you often fight sleep at bedtime.
- Still wake up 3-5 times a night to nurse... lucky Mommy.  We are starting weaning off night feedings this month, the pediatrician gave us some good ideas... here's to hoping they work!

Goodness you are growing and changing, before long you will be the big ONE!
Where does the time go???
We just love watching your personality come out!

Love you bunches Ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Honest Ramblings on the Myths and Truths of "Sleep Training"

Warning:  This is a long rambling post in which I vent and get out some of my regrets/frustrations that have come with having a baby and not sleeping... there will be no pretty pictures to view- if there were you would see a mama that looks like a zombie, a vaccuum cleaner, and a red faced baby.

Baby advice #1:  "Enjoy the sleep while you can... then sleep when baby sleeps!"
Myth or Truth:  TRUTH
While I felt like I took it to heart, even though I wasn't getting that much sleep from months 8-9 of my pregnancy (hello full bladder!), I had NO idea what the lack of sleep that comes with having a baby would be like.
I am not a morning person so it took quite some adjusting to wake up and sometimes stay up with Irelyn.
Our little pookie slept pretty good the first two months of her life.
Then, from months 3-5 we were "blessed" with COLIC.
OH THE NIGHTMARE.
I would not wish a colicky baby on ANYONE.
The things a screaming inconsolable baby does to your sanity are not pleasant.
I am sorry to say at times I resented my little red faced screaming cutie-pie.
Where was my calm peaceful slumbering newborn??
Why did God give me a screamer??
When would it end??
Ahhh, there were some nights where it wasn't too bad and I would think "Maybe it's finally over!".
Then, we took baby to her four month appointment where the doctor proceeded to tell us she was teething.
GREAT.
Now, we had a colicky, teething baby.
Looking back, I am SO glad Irelyn's colicky time was predictable.  The screaming would commence from 6-9pm.
We used everything from white noise on the radio, the vaccuum (Irelyn's favorite), hair dryers, loud shushing, and bumpy stroller rides to get her to sleep.
I didn't go a lot of places with Irelyn because she hated the carseat and when the car would stop at stop-signs she would start crying.  The last thing I wanted to hear was baby crying during the day when I knew I would have to listen to it for hours at night.
So, out of self preservation I pretty much was holed up at home while I sent the hubby grocery lists via text message.
Obviously, I got quite lonely.
Unfortunately we were not so involved in a church to where we had people to bring us meals or come visit.  I regret that we didn't make more of an effort in getting to know people in Topeka.  It would have helped out this mama's sleep deprived sanity immensely had we had that support.
The hubs and I aren't exactly those extroverted personalities that "need-to-be-with-people-to-survive".  We are pretty happy hanging out with each other and occasionally doing social things.
Thankfully we have wonderful family.  My mom and my sister got lots of hysterical phone calls from me and were extremely helpful in calming me down and making me not feel like I'd completely lost my mind.
I digress.

Baby advice #2: "Food will make your baby sleep longer!"
Myth or Truth:  MYTH
Also at baby's four month appointment, in addition to the teething news, our pediatrician told us we could start her on solids- and maybe it would help her sleep longer.
I brought this topic up at a Le Leche League meeting and was told that it is better to wait until six months to start baby on solids as it could jeopardize baby's sensitive digestive tract.
This is where asking for advice from lots of different types of people can lead to new mama confusion.  One person tells you one thing, another tells you the complete opposite.
However, I was willing to try ANYTHING that might help Irelyn sleep through the night so we gave rice cereal a shot, at the risk of "damaging" her digestive tract...  she didn't want anything to do with the rice cereal.  Great.
Luckily, the colicky symptoms went away around 5 months so mostly we were dealing with teething and several wake-ups during the night.
We decided to wait on solids and try again at six months and just deal with the sleep deprivation.
Six months rolls around and we try again with better success!  Despite the tongue thrust we are able to get baby to eat.  I was so excited thinking this would for sure work and help her sleep through the night.
Nope.
Even now, at nine months the amount of food Irelyn eats makes NO difference in her sleep patterns.

Baby advice #3: "Stretching their feedings will make them eat more and less often, thus "training" them to last longer through the night."
Myth or Truth:  MYTH (In our case)
I actually think this makes sense and would probably work for some babies.  However, trying to stretch Irelyn an extra hour (at nine months she "should" be able to go four hours between feedings) seems to make her really fussy.  Even when we distract her with toys or games, when this girl gets hungry she's hungry and is NOT interested in playing.  She likes to eat on a three hour schedule.  I do think if we just let her fuss the extra hour for a couple weeks she would eventually get it, but that's two weeks where I don't need to listen to fussing if I just stick to her desired three hour schedule.  Oh well.

Baby advice #4:  "Just let them cry-it-out"
Myth or Truth: UNDECIDED
I say "undecided" because I have talked to people who have actually had this work successfully, but it is a VERY hard sleep training method to put into practice.
Listening to your baby screaming for you is heartbreaking :(.
Also, the ladies at Le Leche League said cry-it-out is BAD for baby and could lead to baby not feeling comforted and safe.
Enter new-mom-anxiety again over which advice to follow.  Let her cry-it-out and risk "ruining" our bond or let her cry-it-out MAYBE get my sanity back...hmmm.
My sister did it with her baby and it worked- for the most part, he still may get up once a night now but that's better than 4-6 times right?!
I braved this method after getting some encouragement from her and deciding if I didn't try it I would go completely insane and I'm a better mommy when I'm not feeling crazy sleep-deprived.
The first night she went to bed okay (she's been going down fairly easy since 6 months), the first time she woke up she cried for one hour, the second time for 45 minutes, and third time for 30 minutes, she slept until 6:30am.
The second night she cried for 30 minutes the first time, and 30 minutes the second time, and then slept until about 6am.
The third night she slept through the night until 6am!  Yeah!
I thought we finally had this sleep thing figured out!
Then, the next two nights she was back to waking up every 2-3 hours and crying for 30 minutes.
At this point I was starting to lose sanity again so I decided to just feed her like usual because I knew she'd fall asleep instantly if I nursed her.
So now we are back to square one.

Baby advice #5:  "Do what works for you and your baby."
Myth or Truth:  TRUTH (Obviously)
Irelyn wakes up four times a night and I nurse her back to sleep, but at least I don't have to hear her cry-it-out (which was heartbreaking) and I don't lose as much sleep waiting anxiously for her to stop crying.  I still fantasize about trying this method again, and maybe I will get to that point eventually, but for now I will wake up every three hours to feed her.  I will count myself lucky that I have a healthy baby who apparently LOVES my company four times a night, and I will soak up every moment that she wants to be held because she is growing WAY to fast.

Baby advice #6:  "Read parenting books with a grain of salt and do not compare your baby to other babies."
Myth or Truth: TRUTH
I read several parenting/breastfeeding/birthing books before Irelyn was born.  A lot of them were written by doctors, which I guess makes the books seem more credible.  However, after dealing with a pediatrician whose advice I found more annoying and canned than helpful, I was frustrated how he made me feel like my concerns weren't that big of a deal or that my baby's sleep problems could be "solved" by simply following A,B, and C.  I think trusting your instincts and other moms' advice is better for your sanity, and of course finding a pediatrician who you really like and trust makes a world of difference.

Expecting your baby to sleep through the night is like expecting your labor and delivery to go according to your carefully laid out birth plan.  It's nice to think about but don't expect it to happen!
As for "sleep training", well, I think it's more like "parent training".  You decide what you can tolerate and your baby decides what they can tolerate... and then you just deal... and try to smile when someone tells you their baby has slept through the night since birth.
As for what is "normal", well, within the past week I've had one person think my daughter is a year old and another that she's six months old.  She's nine months.
So yeah, there is no NORMAL.

Irelyn {8 Months}

8 Months Old, March 5, 2013
Sweet Baby Girl,
You are 8 months old!
Here's what you've been up to:

  • Eating solids, actually eating and not just smooshing them out with your tongue (bye-bye tongue thrust!).  It is fun to try new foods with you, your favorite right now is applesauce.  You still have to make a grimace face every time the spoon hits your mouth- it's like you anticipate a yucky flavor!  I was surprised to find you liked clementines too, I thought they might be too sour for you.
Grandma feeding you peas... yummy
Feeding yourself... mmm squash!
  • You are giving HUGS- which is adorable, though you still aren't super snugly- you are a busy girl and  have to watch what's happening around you.
  • I've said it before but you are SUCH an observer!  You love to study faces of new people and touch faces of people you know.

  • First Valentine's Day- Daddy bought you a ceramic ladybug ornament- you really liked the tag on it, go figure.

  • Playtime involves lots of peek-a-boo, talking, chewing, drooling, and silly faces!  You are really turning into quite the goof-ball!

The "Binky Sandwich"
  • You started physical therapy again to work on your neck muscles.  At this point you are not behind but you could be if we don't get these neck problems conquered.  You still hate tummy time because it hurts to lift your head upwards, poor baby :(.  This is keeping you from working towards crawling.  You are still not doing a great push up and have yet to get up on your hands and knees. The PT thinks you'll improve quickly- we just gotta keep working with you- even when you cry and scream because you don't want to stretch.
  • You smile and jabber a lot, even in church, which is pretty funny- I think you like to fill those prayerful silences.  Luckily we've had several people tell us they like to hear you "talking" during the service!
  • You experienced your first big snow!  Pretty much all of Kansas got almost a foot of snow!  Daddy was out of school for 4 days so you had lots of cuddle time and Mommy had a nice break :).  You weren't really interested in the snow when we took you out, just watching the dogs (snow makes our dogs a bit crazy and quite frisky).   We actually braved the bad roads on one of the snow days to take you to the doctor.  You were pulling on your ears and whining a lot, we thought you had an ear infection- luckily you didn't, just fussy from teething.
Morning coffee time with Daddy

Crazy snow dogs
Walks with Daddy put you to sleep!
Baby girl you are just amazing!  Even though I'm often sleep deprived or tired of listening to whining from the never-ending teething, all those smiles, giggles, hugs, and joy that you bring make it all worth it!
We just love you to pieces!

Love you Ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {7 Months}

7 Months Old
Sweet Baby Girl,
You are 7 months old!
Mommy doesn't have a whole lot of changes to report in you... other than you can now sit up extremely well on your own!  Yeah!
Your balance had been pretty good for awhile so we knew it was only a matter of time.  You really mastered it when Mommy and Daddy went on a date (for the first time since you were born!) and Grandma and Grandpa babysat (Jan. 31st).  We came back and you were sitting tall and proud!
It is nice to be able to put you in the high chair and not worry so much about you slipping down or toppling over, though we still tie you in with Grandma's tea-towels since we're using Great-Grandpa's antique high chair (no safety harnesses back then!).
You still talk to us a lot and dazzle us with your smiles.
You still know how to roll from front to back and back to front, you just choose not to now that you know how to sit... which is fine, except it's not helping improve your skills for crawling when all you want to do is sit on your own.
Your eating and sleeping haven't changed too much at this point.
Peek-a-boo is a BIG hit with you right now, whether we hide and pop up to surprise you or whether we cover your face with a burp rag and you pull it off suddenly, it always elicits a big smile or giggle out of you... so cute!
The teething is still continuing with no teeth to show for it, we have occasionally given you Tylenol to help you sleep.
We are waiting for you to really start enjoying solids, you still have the tongue-thrust reflex.

You are such an observer and quite curious about any new object that comes within reach!
Sometimes I think we can see the gears turning as you learn new things!
You are getting to be such a big girl!

Keep smiling Ladybug!
We love you bunches!

Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {6 Months}

6 Months Old, January 5, 2013

Sweet baby girl,
I can hardly believe you are six months old.
We have had you in our lives for half a year!
6 month stats:
Height: 26.2 in., 64th%
Weight: 15 lb. 1 oz., 30th%
Head: 42.5 cm., 51st%
Diaper: Size 2 sposies, most of your cloth dipe snaps are fully out length-wise

The infant stage of unpredictability (well, maybe some infants are predictable but you weren't!) has passed.
I can usually predict your hungry/sleepy times now which makes going out loads easier.
I still haven't gone on long errands solo with you... Mommy's chicken :).
A few highlights of month six:
- Your first Christmas!
- You attended your first funeral, your Great-Grandma Quiring passed away and we celebrated her life New Years weekend.  You were in the nursery for the service but then everyone enjoyed holding you during the fellowship meal, such a little dazzler!
- Dec. 31 you found your feet and promptly started sticking them in your mouth.
- You are an observer, you study things carefully (and then stick them in your mouth).
- You LOVE your taggy blankets.
- You hate getting dressed, especially putting your arms in sleeves, and you fuss fuss fuss during the whole process!
- Tummy time has progressed significantly and you no longer cry when we put you on your tummy!  Hooray!  As a result, your neck muscles are getting so much looser and your arms stronger.  This has all but gotten rid of the plageocephaly/torticollis.  You are still tight turning to the right but it is hardly noticeable anymore!
- Mommy witnessed you rolling back to front a couple times this month, though not frequently.
- You are still loud and chatty and you make the funniest sounds!  We love hearing you talk to us!
- We have tried solids more consistently this past month.  I read it doesn't matter if you start your baby with sweet foods, so, figuring you would like fruit better than rice cereal I tried bananas and applesauce.  You don't like either!!!  Silly baby.  You do however like sweet potatoes and squash.  You like to feed yourself and will grab the spoon out of Mommy's hand (Grandma says Mommy was an independent feeder too :).
- We spent the last half of December packing to move as Daddy accepted a teaching job (yay!).  Mommy got to experience attempting to pack while caring for a 6 month old... I think I should get some kind of award for this!  You do not like being left alone on the floor or in your bouncer for too long so I packed in spurts!
- You still aren't sleeping through the night without eating... Mommy gets up at least three times a night... sometimes four or five :(.  SO ready for that to be over, but I remind myself that at least you go right back to sleep.
- You usually don't like to be held or rocked when you're going to sleep, you arch your back and fuss.  I guess we did too good of a job sleep-training you to put yourself to sleep!
- I still swaddle you for sleep time but you do not tolerate your arms being swaddled anymore, which is fine, except for the fact that you pull your binkie out which makes you wake up or cry.
- You still LOVE reading eating books!

You are changing SO much each month, can't wait to see what next month brings!
Love you bunches Ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {5 Months}!

5 Months, December 5, 2012
Sweet baby girl,
You are 5 months old!
Not sure of your "official" stats (no Dr. appt. this month).
Mommy's guess:
Weight: about 15 pounds
Height: about 25 inches
Diapers:  We've opened up all the snaps on most of your cloth dipes.
Here's what you've been up to:
You started noticing "strangers", Thanksgiving weekend, you cried at Papaw when he looked at you :(.  Silly baby.  You take awhile to warm up to people, but then you give your "DAZZLE" smile!  So beautiful :).
Nov. 27th (Mommy's birthday) you rolled from back to front!
Thanksgiving weekend- Mommy saw you grab your feet for the first time!
You know how to put your binkie back in your mouth, even though you get it backwards or sideways sometimes- you still "nom" on it- I think it feels good on those teething gums.
No teeth yet.
We can't keep shoes on your feet, you constantly kick your feet together like Dorothy...
"there's no place like home"!
You are belly laughing and squeal with delight!
You talk a lot, especially in the morning.
You have started smiling at the dogs and cat- you reach out to pet Aster when he rubs against you!
You anticipate being picked up and when you get a bottle.
You are sleeping in your own room now!
You LOVE baths.
You are putting yourself to sleep more frequently.
You still get up at least twice a night... SO fun for Mommy.
The car-seat is not your enemy anymore!
You smile easily and often :).
Daddy gets the biggest laughs out of you.
You LOVE when mommy's hair falls across your face- it makes you smile and coo every time!  Although, you are now grabbing mommy's hair which isn't so fun- luckily I have a tough head!
You are observing us eat a lot, and occasionally try to grab our plates.
We've tried rice cereal and are starting to get used to it, I think you like the spoon more than the cereal!
We attempted sweet potatoes once but they gave you a diaper rash.  We'll have to try again in a month or so because you liked them!
We're looking forward to introducing you to more family over Christmas!
Keep smiling baby girl :).

Love you Ladybug!
Love,
Mommy

Irelyn {4 Months}

Sweet baby girl,
You are 4 months old!
Stats from your four month check-up:
Height: 24 in. (38th %)
Weight: 13 lb. 5 oz. (41st %)
Head: 40.6 cm. (40th %)
Diapers: Size 2 sposies and mid-snaps in cloth.
You seem to have evened out across the charts!
Although, I think length-wise your torso keeps getting longer but your legs seem to have stayed the same, I'm still rolling up your size 3 month pants!
We switched pediatricians this month due to insurance conflicts, and we couldn't be happier!  You smiled at her the whole time during the appointment, and then the nurses came in to give you your shots.  They had you grinning and then in went the shots and out came the tears!  Poor baby :(
So sad after shots, but so cute with your little Kermit the Frog band-aid and shoe-socks :).
This past month we have really been working on tummy-time and head rotation.  Your head has really improved and the Dr. says no helmet will be needed!  You still tend to turn to the left but not nearly as much as you used to.  Now you have a bald spot on the back of your head :).
Your hair has started growing this month, although most of it is in the back, you finally have some fuzz on top too!
You can roll from tummy to back if we get your arms up under you during tummy time- it's fun to watch your shock when you end up on your back!
We have started "sleep training"... it is a process.  I lay you down for your naps while you are still drowsy to try to get you to fall asleep on your own without Mommy bouncing you or patting your back.  This has been successful a few times and other times I still have to pat your back while you lay in your bassinet.  The Cloud B Giraffe cousin Easton loaned us is working wonders at helping you get to sleep and stay asleep!  It is so cute to watch you hug Mr. Giraffe in your sleep :).  We have also started a bedtime routine (bath, bottle, story, bed) which I think is really helping you wind down at night, as evidenced in that we can get you to bed between 6:30-7:30pm every night!  Wahoo!
The downside is you are still getting up 3-6 times a night... which means some tough night-time sleep training is in store :(.  We'll see how that goes!

We roll up bibs or blankets behind your head to keep you from turning to the left!
The Kindle Pandora app. is our nap-time friend.
I think the colic has gone BYE-BYE.  You are not as fussy this month as you were the past two months.  It has been a gradual decline, but we are thanking God daily for that- the crying was driving Mommy and Daddy crazy!  We did find out from the Dr. that you are teething... at four months... which explains a lot of your current fussiness during day and some crying in the evening.  We can't see any teeth yet but the bumps are there.  Now we just try to give you things to chew on to keep you happy!
You went to your first birthday party this past month.  We drove down to Oklahoma for Easton's first birthday party.  The drive down was, let's just say, not fun.  We stopped six times (it's a four hour trip) because you kept pootering your pants and I didn't want you to sit in it in the carseat, and then you SCREAM-cried the last hour of the trip.  It was BAD.  Mommy and Daddy had pounding headaches by the time we got there... and Mommy may or may not have had a little breakdown at the end.  Ahh, the joys of parenting!  You did pretty good the whole weekend and you slept almost the ENTIRE trip back home so God heard our prayers for sanity.
Birthday boy!
Grandma getting smiles out of your cheeks :).
Grandpa cuddles!  So nice to have family to help hold you when you're being Miss Fussy Pants (look at that cranky face)!
You have started jabbering to yourself, when you wake up in the morning we hear you "talking".  You like to say "m's" and sometimes say "mamamama" even though I know you're not correlating that with me yet, it's still pretty cute!
You also have been laughing daily now, especially when Daddy is playing with you!
We LOVE hearing you giggle- it is the cutest thing!
Sitting you on our belly's always gets a laugh out of you!
